About the Role

As a Staff Android Engineer on the Brand Ad Formats team at Reddit, you will be responsible for leading the technical strategy to develop and implement high-performance ad formats, with a focus on video ads. You will work closely with the product and design teams to build a roadmap that will transform Reddit's video ads into an industry leader. Your expertise in Android development and ad tech will be crucial in driving the technical design and execution of projects, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and meet the company's high standards.

The Brand Ad Formats team is dedicated to creating innovative ad formats that help advertisers maximize their reach and brand impact. The team is building fully customizable interactive formats and AI-driven ads that incorporate User-Generated Content (UGC). As a Staff Android Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the technical strategy for these initiatives and ensuring they are delivered to the highest standards.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the technical strategy for video ads on Android, working closely with product and design teams to build a roadmap for industry-leading ad formats.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight for the development of new ad formats, ensuring they are high-performance, high-quality, and scalable.
  • Drive the entire development lifecycle, from early-stage discovery and prototyping to testing, data-driven experimentation, and deployment.
  • Mentor senior engineers across teams in ad formats, establishing best practices for design, testing, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and sales, to ensure ad formats meet business and customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for ad formats, ensuring that knowledge is shared across teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive innovation in ad formats.
  • Partner with the sales team to provide technical support and guidance on ad formats, ensuring they have the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively sell Reddit's ad offerings.
  • Work with the product team to develop and prioritize the product roadmap for ad formats, ensuring that technical capabilities align with business objectives.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on Android development.
  • Deep expertise in Kotlin and modern Android architectural patterns, with a minimum of 3+ years of experience in these areas.
  • Prior experience in ad tech, building highly interactive and rich-media mobile experiences.
  • A product mindset, with a proven track record of delivering user-facing features where UI polish and performance are critical.
  • Ability to navigate complex, data-intensive environments and build fault-tolerant client-side systems.
  • Experience with AI-driven ad formats and User-Generated Content (UGC) integration.
  • Strong understanding of system design principles and the ability to apply them to complex technical problems.
