About the Role
The Android Platform team at Reddit is responsible for setting the technical direction for Android development, designing, building, and supporting the Android app and its ecosystem. As a Staff Android Engineer, you will be a technical leader, focusing on three key pillars: Client Health, Developer Experience, and App Architecture. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the architecture of Reddit's Android app to scale for the next 100 million+ daily active users.The role entails collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve Android developer experience, defining and operationalizing guardrails to catch common issues early, and building and evolving Android client health and observability foundations. You will also apply AI thoughtfully to engineering workflows to enhance productivity and mentor Android engineers through design reviews and education on platform capabilities.
What You Will Do
- Own and shape the architecture of Reddit's Android app to scale for the next 100M+ DAUs
- Improve Android developer experience by designing tools, workflows, and CI integrations
- Define and operationalize guardrails to catch common issues early
- Build and evolve Android client health and observability foundations
- Apply AI to engineering workflows for improved productivity
- Mentor and support Android engineers through design reviews, documentation, and education
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive technical initiatives
- Lead by example, demonstrating expertise in modern Android development and best practices
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of software development experience with at least 4+ years in designing/developing Android applications
- Experience working in a large codebase serving 100+ engineers and millions of DAUs
- Mastery of modern Android development, including Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Coroutines
- Strong background in Android platform/infrastructure, such as shared libraries and core networking/caching
- Practical experience applying AI to engineering workflows with clear, measurable benefits
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence technical direction across multiple teams
- Excellent communication and mentorship skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with startup/session orchestration or other aspects of Android platform development
- Knowledge of observability tools and practices
- Familiarity with machine learning principles and applications in software development
- Participation in open-source projects or personal coding projects that demonstrate expertise
