About the Role

The Staff Automation Engineer position at IonQ is a unique blend of technical expertise and process innovation. As the architect of the modern audit function, this role is not about performing audits but about designing and automating the systems that perform them. The goal is to transition the department from a manual, point-in-time testing model to a continuous assurance model that provides real-time risk insights. This involves integrating Generative AI, agentic orchestration, and process engineering principles to optimize audit workflows.

The role reports to the internal audit department and involves close collaboration with various teams to design, implement, and continuously improve audit processes. Given the cutting-edge nature of IonQ's technology, the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges is essential.

What You Will Do

  • Analyze and map complex end-to-end audit processes to identify automation-first opportunities.
  • Apply Lean/Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste in the audit lifecycle.
  • Design standardized, modular workflow patterns that can be reused across different audit domains.
  • Build and deploy AI-assisted workflows using Vellum AI, Copilot Studio, and Claude 3.5/4 to automate controls and testing.
  • Engineer, automate, and continuously optimize audit workflows.
  • Collaborate with the internal audit team to identify areas for process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of audit processes and automation scripts.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Participate in the development of the internal audit strategic plan.

What We Are Looking For

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the tech or finance industry.
  • Strong understanding of audit processes and risk management principles.
  • Experience with automation tools and technologies, such as Generative AI and process engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java.
