## About the Role As a Staff Brand Designer at Mercury, you will be responsible for setting and upholding the craft standard for the company's brand identity. This entails working across various channels, including campaigns, web, social, events, and more, to ensure a consistent and exceptional visual representation of Mercury. Your role will involve leading complex brand design projects from brief to delivery, partnering with creative leadership to co-lead the evolution of Mercury's creative direction, and providing hands-on craft oversight across the Brand Studio output.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine aesthetic philosophy, developed through years of doing high-level work, and will bring this philosophy to everything they touch. You will own the most technically complex brand design work at Mercury, helping define what visual excellence looks like as the brand continues to evolve. Your expertise in brand systems, typography, layout, color, and composition will be crucial in elevating the team's craft and ensuring that Mercury's brand identity is consistently exceptional.

## What You Will Do - Set and uphold the craft standard for Mercury's brand across all channels and surfaces.
- Lead the most technically complex and high-visibility brand design projects end-to-end.
- Partner with creative leadership to co-lead the evolution of Mercury's creative direction.
- Provide hands-on craft oversight across Brand Studio output, reviewing work and helping the team make better decisions.
- Commission and art-direct external creatives, such as photographers, illustrators, and motion designers.
- Develop brand system documentation and decision-making frameworks to help the team move with confidence and consistency.
- Mentor IC3 and IC4 designers through critique, pairing, and direct feedback to elevate their craft.
- Collaborate with brand strategists, copywriters, PMMs, and leadership on how Mercury shows up across all channels.
- Own and execute visual standards across typography, imagery, layout, and motion.
- Work closely with the design team to ensure that all design work meets the high standards of the company.
- A clear and deeply held aesthetic point of view, with the ability to articulate what makes something great and what makes something fall short.
- Fluency in brand systems, with experience building for scale and consistency.
- 7-10+ years of brand design experience, with a background that includes high-craft environments such as agency, fashion, elevated consumer, or design-forward tech.
- Experience operating at a staff level, with the ability to work autonomously, influence without authority, and make decisions that shape the output of an entire team.
- Proficiency in Figma and hands-on experience contributing to or owning a design system.
- Strong verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate the process and rationale behind your design decisions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including brand strategists, copywriters, and designers.
- Knowledge of current design trends and technologies.
- Experience working in a fintech or financial services environment.
