About the Role

The Staff Business Analyst position on the Credit team at Plaid is a unique opportunity to build bespoke solutions for customers using cash flow-based insights within credit decisioning. This role is critical in translating Plaid's credit insights into practical, hands-on recommendations for lenders, ultimately driving better lending outcomes. The Credit team's mission is to power access to more affordable credit products, and this position plays a key part in achieving that goal.

As a Staff Business Analyst, you will work closely with customers and cross-functional partners to improve adoption of Plaid insight data, shape customer-specific solutions, and serve as a subject matter expert on credit policy implementation. This involves understanding the lending lifecycle and how to optimize each step, from marketing and acquisitions to customer management and collections or recoveries.

The role is well-suited for someone with deep credit risk expertise who can connect underwriting strategy, data-driven decisioning, and customer needs. The ability to make data-driven decisions and a deep understanding of credit risk and the development of underwriting models are essential.

What You Will Do

  • Own the process for creating hands-on recommendations for incorporating cash flow insights into lending decisions, using best practices for account-level decisioning.
  • Improve customer usage of Plaid insight data through adoption of custom solutions tailored to specific customer needs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Plaid's credit insights and credit policy implementation in support of Data Science, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams.
  • Translate lender objectives and credit strategies into actionable decisioning recommendations.
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure Plaid's credit solutions are practical, scalable, and impactful for customers.
  • Help customers optimize how they use alternative data across the lending lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the Data Science team to develop and refine credit models and strategies.
  • Work with the Engineering team to integrate credit insights into Plaid's products and services.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of credit policies and decisioning criteria.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in credit and lending.

What We Are Looking For

  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in business analysis, credit risk, underwriting, or a related function.
  • Deep understanding of credit risk and the development of underwriting models.
  • Hands-on credit expertise building and maintaining real-world credit policies for lenders.
  • Knowledge of the lending lifecycle and how to optimize each step, including marketing, acquisitions, customer management, and collections or recoveries.
  • Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation, preferably with knowledge of statistical modeling.
  • Familiarity with fintech and the digital payments landscape.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Finance, Economics, or Business Administration.

Nice to Have

  • Experience applying cash flow-based underwriting or alternative data within consumer or SMB lending.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
