Job Description

About the Role

Wikimedia is seeking a skilled Staff Database Administrator to support and protect the sum of all human knowledge shared by Wikipedia and its sister projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, operating, and optimizing relational database infrastructure at a large scale, particularly with MariaDB and other MySQL derivatives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and performance of Wikimedia’s production relational database systems and the structural integrity of its data.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot relational database systems in production, development, and staging environments.
  • Design, implement, manage, and automate replication topologies.
  • Consult on database schema design and query implementation, and oversee database schema changes in production.

Requirements

Strong expertise in MariaDB and other MySQL derivatives is required. The ability to work in a remote setting and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation is necessary.
