Staff Product Designer - Advanced Trade

About the Role

The Advanced Trading Design team is a collaborative and dynamic group of professionals who are passionate about creating high-quality, user-centered designs. As a Staff Product Designer, you will have the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Research, to define problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and ship thoughtful, high-impact work.

Coinbase is a remote-first company, but not remote-only. You can expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called 'surges.' This unique approach allows the company to foster a strong sense of community and collaboration among its distributed team members.

What You Will Do

• Own end-to-end product design for key Advanced Trade experiences across web and mobile, from discovery and concepting through prototyping, specs, iteration, and launch quality.
• Lead high-ambiguity, zero-to-one and improvement initiatives across advanced trading surfaces, including areas such as derivatives, spot margin, structured products, portfolio, and modular UI evolution.
• Raise the craft and quality bar across the Advanced Trading product surface, helping bring our UI and interaction quality up to what best-in-class industry products are expected to deliver in 2026 and beyond.
• Design scalable frameworks, patterns, and information architecture for complex, data-dense workflows so advanced traders can move with clarity in high-stakes moments.
• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and cross-functional peers to define problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and ship thoughtful, high-impact work.
• Lead through influence by coaching and upleveling more junior designers, contributing strong opinions, and extending your impact beyond a single project or feature area.
• Collaborate with the design team to develop and maintain a consistent design language and ensure that all design decisions align with the company's overall vision and goals.
• Conduct user research to inform design decisions and validate design solutions.
• Develop and maintain design documentation to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and aligned.

What We Are Looking For

• 8+ years of experience designing digital products, including meaningful time in complex, data-dense, workflow-heavy, or tools-oriented environments.
• Broad end-to-end product design range and a track record of operating autonomously with limited oversight in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Strong visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, and prototyping craft; able to raise the quality bar for the broader team.
• Proven ability to lead through influence, shape direction, and coach less experienced designers without formal management responsibility.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively with Product and Engineering on highly collaborative work.
• Deep fluency in Figma and modern prototyping workflows.
• Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots in day-to-day workflows, applying sound judgment and human-in-the-loop practices to improve quality and efficiency.
• Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and the ability to apply them in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing for trading, brokerage, wallet, fintech, or other related fields.
• Knowledge of blockchain technology and its applications in the financial sector.
• Familiarity with design systems and the ability to contribute to the development and maintenance of a design language.
