About the Role

The Staff Product Designer role at Gusto is a unique opportunity to join a team of creative and collaborative individuals who are passionate about empowering small businesses and their employees. As a Staff Product Designer, you will be responsible for shaping the strategy and design of Gusto's retirement products, working closely with cross-functional teams to create a cohesive and high-trust experience for employers and employees. You will be the design lead for your projects, co-owning priorities, success metrics, and driving alignment across the Retirement team and key partner teams.

As a Staff Product Designer, you will be an integral part of this team, contributing to Gusto's mission to grow the small business economy.

The role entails working on complex problems, designing workflows that make complex decisions feel simple, and creating a more connected journey between payroll and retirement. You will be responsible for improving the setup and account management experience, reducing contact rates and confusion, and designing flexible, scalable patterns across Retirement.

What You Will Do

  • Operate as the design lead for projects, co-owning priorities, success metrics, and driving alignment across the Retirement team and key partner teams
  • Improve the setup and account management experience to boost confidence, adoption, and retention
  • Create a more connected journey between payroll and retirement by designing across the seams of product, operations, and support
  • Design flexible, scalable patterns across Retirement, integrating seamlessly with adjacent payroll and benefits touchpoints
  • Apply discerning design judgment to determine when and how to effectively incorporate AI to enhance the experience
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference
  • Use AI to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers
  • Collaborate with the design team to maintain a high level of design quality and consistency across all products
  • Participate in design critiques and provide feedback to other designers to help them grow and improve

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on fintech or related fields
  • Portfolio that showcases your ability to design complex, high-trust experiences
  • Strong understanding of UX principles and human-centered design
  • Experience working with AI and machine learning technologies
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong design judgment and attention to detail
  • Experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
