About the Role

The Staff Product Engineer role at LawnStarter is an exciting opportunity to join a team that's revolutionizing the home services industry. As a product engineer, you will be responsible for leading AI agents and shipping software to a marketplace with real customers and pros on both sides. You will be the engineering anchor of one initiative at a time, working closely with a PM and a designer to shape the problem, decide the technical approach, and lead the AI agents that implement most of the code.

00M in annual bookings. We're expanding beyond lawn care to become the one-stop shop for all home services, operating across three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a single shared platform.

What You Will Do

  • Lead AI agents to ship software to a marketplace with real customers and pros on both sides
  • Partner with a PM and a designer to shape the problem, decide the technical approach, and lead the AI agents
  • Own the technical approach, including architecture, data model, integration choices, rollout plan, observability, and rollback strategy
  • Ensure the quality, safety, and velocity of the AI agents' output
  • Collaborate with the PM and designer to present results 2-4 weeks post-launch and share the outcome
  • Develop and maintain a high bar for what ships under your name, including production correctness, security posture, performance, observability, and experience for customers and pros
  • Build the agent workflow that lets one engineer ship what used to take a team
  • Make technical decisions and document them, revisiting them if the data says you were wrong
  • Work horizontally with the PM and designer, with no tech lead above you and no architect approval
  • Own the initiative outcome, including the specific metric the initiative was set up to move

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in product engineering, with a focus on AI and digital skills
  • Strong understanding of software development, including architecture, data models, and integration choices
  • Experience leading AI agents and shipping software to a marketplace
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work horizontally with a PM and designer
  • Experience with technical decision-making and documentation
  • Strong understanding of production correctness, security posture, performance, observability, and experience for customers and pros
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Nice to Have

  • Experience with on-demand marketplaces or home services
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and agile development methodologies
  • Certification in AI or machine learning
  • Experience with multiple programming languages
