About the Role
The Staff Product Engineer at LawnStarter plays a pivotal role in the company's mission to become the one-stop shop for all home services. This position is based in São Paulo, Brazil, and offers the opportunity to work remotely. As a key member of a small, focused initiative team, you will work closely with a Product Manager and a designer, supported by an Engineering Manager. The team's objective is to develop and ship high-quality products that meet the evolving needs of customers and professionals alike.The role entails making significant technical decisions, directing AI agents to implement code, and ensuring the quality and reliability of the final product. You will have the autonomy to make most technical calls, with architect review on significant architectural decisions and fast input from peers. Your work will have a direct impact on the company's growth and success, and you will be measured by the impact of your work rather than the lines of code merged.
LawnStarter values collaboration and teamwork. As a Staff Product Engineer, you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering peers across initiatives in a shared codebase. What You Will Do
- Lead AI agents in implementing code and ensure the quality and reliability of the final product
- Make significant technical decisions, including architecture, data model, integration choices, rollout plan, observability, and rollback strategy
- Collaborate with the Product Manager to shape the problem and decide the technical approach
- Work closely with the designer to make UX decisions and participate in in-tool prototyping
- Direct AI agents to implement much of the code and review the output to ensure it meets the company's standards
- Write careful, hand-written code in sensitive areas when required
- Participate in the full lifecycle of product development, from problem-framing to post-launch metric review
- Own the outcome of your work with your team and present results to stakeholders
- Make most technical calls yourself, with architect review on significant architectural decisions
- Document significant decisions and revisit them if the data indicates a need for change
- Collaborate with engineering peers to share knowledge and best practices
- Participate in weekly check-ins with your Engineering Manager to discuss progress and goals
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on product engineering
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++
- Experience working with AI coding agents and directing them to implement code
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions
- Experience working in a remote environment and managing your time effectively
- Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns, testing, and deployment
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a startup environment or a company with a strong emphasis on innovation
- Knowledge of cloud-based technologies such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Jenkins or CircleCI
