Job Description

About the Role

The Staff Software Engineer role at Cloudera is a critical position that requires a deep understanding of Rust-based infrastructure services and cloud architecture. As a key member of the Anywhere Cloud team, you will be responsible for designing and building high-performance infrastructure services, including reverse proxies, credential brokers, and log collectors. Your work will have a direct impact on the platform's performance, security, and scalability.

The Anywhere Cloud platform is a Kubernetes-native platform that enables data and AI workloads to run anywhere, without friction or vendor lock-in. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be working closely with a team of experienced engineers to drive the technical direction of the platform and ensure that it meets the evolving needs of Cloudera's customers.

What You Will Do

  • Design and build high-performance infrastructure services, including reverse proxies, credential brokers, and log collectors
  • Develop and implement authentication protocols and access control enforcement
  • Write thorough tests, including property-based and fuzz testing, for code where bugs have security implications
  • Build distributed telemetry and log collection systems
  • Instrument services with structured tracing, metrics, and health endpoints
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers on systems thinking and performance-critical service development
  • Drive design documents for new components and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions
  • Define testing strategies that give confidence in critical code paths
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of infrastructure services
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure that code meets Cloudera's standards
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying that knowledge to improve the platform

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years building performance-critical or security-critical systems
  • Experience with Rust, including async Rust, multi-crate workspaces, and the tokio/hyper ecosystem
  • Strong understanding of networking (TCP/HTTP), memory management, streaming/backpressure, and concurrency
  • Experience working on systems where correctness has security implications
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, including the operator pattern, Helm, and cloud-native infrastructure
  • Strong testing skills, including property-based and fuzz testing
  • Experience with systems architecture and design
  • Strong communication and mentorship skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with other programming languages, such as Java or Python
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies, such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems
  • Certification in cloud computing or a related field
