About the Role

The Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Networks role at Datadog is a critical position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise and leadership skills. As a member of the Cloud Networks team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the production network infrastructure that powers Datadog's platform across multiple cloud providers, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with internal teams and cloud service providers to troubleshoot complex connectivity issues, integrate new networking capabilities, and improve the foundations that engineers and customers rely on.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud network infrastructure, software development, and networking protocols. You will be expected to set clear technical direction for expanding data centers and evolving the network while maintaining stability and performance. What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and operate cloud network infrastructure across multiple cloud providers in a multi-region environment
  • Own connectivity between clouds, customers, and developers, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable network paths
  • Set clear technical direction for expanding data centers and evolving the network while maintaining stability and performance
  • Improve cross-site and cross-region connectivity patterns to support Datadog's growing platform needs
  • Lead deep troubleshooting and investigations for latency and connectivity issues, including escalations that may originate from customer support
  • Identify and deliver network-related efficiency and cost-saving opportunities that positively impact business health
  • Collaborate with internal teams and cloud service providers to integrate new networking capabilities and improve the overall network infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain software applications to support network operations and automation
  • Participate in on-call ownership and respond to incidents, ensuring prompt resolution and minimal downtime

What We Are Looking For

  • Deep networking expertise, including experience with on-premises networking and/or cloud networking
  • Strong software development skills, with the ability to design and build scalable software applications
  • Experience with cloud providers, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols, including routing, switching, and network security
  • Ability to work collaboratively with distributed teams across time zones
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex connectivity issues and leading deep investigations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to set clear technical direction and drive cross-team collaboration
  • Experience with production infrastructure and incident response
