About the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Cloud Networks team at Datadog, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining the production network infrastructure that powers Datadog's platform. This infrastructure spans across multiple cloud providers, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle, and operates in a multi-region environment. Your work will have a direct impact on the scalability, reliability, and performance of Datadog's services.The Cloud Networks team is responsible for ensuring that the network infrastructure can support the growing needs of Datadog's platform. This includes owning the connectivity between clouds, customers, and developers, and ensuring that network paths are scalable, secure, and reliable. What You Will Do
- Design, build, and operate cloud network infrastructure across AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle in a multi-region environment.
- Own connectivity between clouds, customers, and developers, ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable network paths.
- Set clear technical direction for expanding data centers and evolving the network while maintaining stability and performance.
- Improve cross-site and cross-region connectivity patterns to support Datadog's growing platform needs.
- Lead deep troubleshooting and investigations for latency and connectivity issues, including escalations that may originate from customer support.
- Identify and deliver network-related efficiency and cost-saving opportunities that positively impact business health.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, product, and customer support, to ensure seamless integration and issue resolution.
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 coverage of production infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain documentation of network architecture, design decisions, and operational procedures.
What We Are Looking For
- Deep networking expertise, with experience designing and evolving large-scale networks.
- Strong software development skills, with the ability to operate as a developer in a networking-heavy domain.
- Substantial on-prem networking experience, including routing, configuring, and operating network equipment at scale.
- Cloud networking experience, with knowledge of AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar cloud providers.
- Ability to own ambiguous problems, set direction, and drive cross-team collaboration.
- Experience operating production infrastructure and responding to incidents, including participating in on-call rotations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with distributed teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related field.
