About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at Twilio, you will be part of a talented team responsible for designing, deploying, and managing highly available, large-scale distributed systems. Your day-to-day work will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems in distributed computing. The email platform team is critical to Twilio's success, with systems processing over 12 billion emails on peak days like Black Friday. You will report to an engineering manager and work closely with other team members to drive technical decisions and contribute to the growth of the company.

The role of a Staff Software Engineer is to provide technical leadership and expertise in building scalable and secure email solutions. You will be expected to stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, participating in conferences and contributing to open-source projects. Your technical expertise will help drive the development of new product offerings and enhance the customer journey.

What You Will Do

  • Build and operate distributed production environments used by millions of customers worldwide
  • Collaborate with team members and the wider organization to solve complex problems in distributed computing
  • Mentor and guide junior team members in their career development

  • Optimize systems for improvement and advocate for balancing tech debt and feature development

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on distributed systems and email solutions
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms like AWS or Google Cloud
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git
