## About the Role The Staff Software Engineer, Onboarding at Reddit plays a pivotal role in shaping the first experience of every new user. This involves designing and accelerating the backend architecture for a newly onboarded user, including signal-collection systems, personalization pipelines, and experimentation infrastructure. The role is critical in compounding user engagement over the lifetime of the user, making it a high-impact position within the company.

As part of the Onboarding team, you will work closely with product, design, and data science teams to ensure a streamlined, delightful, and personal experience for every new Redditor. The decisions made in this role have a direct impact on user retention and the overall growth of the platform.

The Onboarding team operates with a growth engineering mindset, prioritizing experimentation and iteration. This means the team is agile, sometimes discarding elements to move faster, and always balancing velocity with reliability.

## What You Will Do - Define and accelerate the backend architecture for newly onboarded users.

  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to cultivate a growth engineering mindset within the team.
  • Scale impact through collaborative engineering with other teams such as Relevance, Feeds, and Notifications.
  • Develop and maintain deep partnerships with engineering teams to ensure Onboarding has a technical representation and influence on their roadmaps.
  • Instrument, measure, and analyze the performance of onboarding flows to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with data science teams to integrate ML-powered personalization into the onboarding experience.
  • Ensure the technical strategy for Onboarding aligns with the company's overall growth goals.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain high-quality code standards.
  • Contribute to the development of the team's technical roadmap.
## What We Are Looking For - 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages relevant to Reddit's tech stack.
  • Experience with machine learning and data science integrations.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable architectures.
