About the Role

Grafana Labs is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join their Platform team, focusing on syseng and platform development. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the internal engineering platform, ensuring it meets the needs of the company's growing customer base. The role involves working closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.

The Internal Engineering Platform (IEP) provides application engineers with the tools, systems, and Kubernetes clusters they need to build, deploy, and run their workloads. The Platform team is organized into squads, each focusing on a specific area such as cloud infrastructure, security, engineering productivity, monitoring, and sustainability. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be part of the Platform SysEng squad, which is focused on the maturity and scalability of the platform.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain the internal engineering platform, ensuring it meets the needs of the company's growing customer base
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions
  • Work on the maturity and scalability of the platform, focusing on reducing new region build timelines to meet customer demands
  • Develop and maintain distributed systems, ensuring high availability, low latency, and efficient processing of large amounts of data
  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the health of the system and understand how people use the company's products
  • Contribute to the development of the company's observability cloud, working on projects such as Grafana, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope
  • Collaborate with the security team to ensure the platform meets the highest security standards
  • Work with the engineering productivity team to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the platform
  • Participate in the development of the company's cloud infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of the growing customer base
  • Contribute to the company's open-source projects, working closely with the open-source community

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on distributed systems and platform development
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Go, Java, or C++
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Knowledge of containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, including architecture, design, and implementation
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug and troubleshoot complex issues

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Salesforce and Excel, with the ability to integrate these tools into the platform
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence, with the ability to apply these concepts to the platform
  • Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards, such as SOC 2 and HIPAA
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment
  • Experience with other programming languages, such as Python or Ruby
