About the Role

LawnStarter, the nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, is expanding beyond lawn care to become the one-stop shop for all home services. The company operates across three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a single shared platform, with over
00M in annual bookings. As a Staff Software Engineer, Product, you will be part of a small, focused initiative team working alongside a Product Manager and a designer, supported by an Engineering Manager.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve shaping problems, deciding technical approaches, directing AI agents to implement code, shipping to production, and owning the outcome with your team. You will have real autonomy in making technical decisions, with architect review on significant architectural decisions and fast input from peers.

What You Will Do

  • Shape problems and decide technical approaches for your initiative
  • Direct AI agents to implement code and ensure high-quality production output
  • Collaborate with your Product Manager and designer to bring engineering judgment to product calls and product sense to engineering calls
  • Work with your Engineering Manager to grow as an engineer and make significant technical decisions
  • Own the outcome of your initiative, including presenting results and sharing the 'did it work' answer
  • Make most technical calls yourself, with architect review on significant architectural decisions
  • Document technical decisions and revisit them if the data says you were wrong
  • Implement quality controls such as prompts, guardrails, evals, tests, and review loops to let agents ship safe, correct, production-ready code
  • Partner with cross-functional teams daily, including your PM and designer, and collaborate with engineering peers regularly
  • Operate at a staff bar, trusted to make calls, ship hard things, and stand behind the outcome

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on product development
  • Experience leading AI agents and ensuring high-quality production output
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in programming languages and software development methodologies
  • Ability to work in a shared codebase and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with data models, integration choices, rollout plans, observability, and rollback strategies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to shape problems and decide technical approaches
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to bring engineering judgment to product calls and product sense to engineering calls
  • Experience working in a remote environment and managing time zones and cultural differences
