About the Role

The Strategic Finance Manager role at Instacart is a unique opportunity to drive growth and profitability through financial modeling and analysis. As a key member of the Retailer pod, you will partner with cross-functional teams to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company's expansion and deepening relationships with grocers and retailers across North America. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include developing decision frameworks, building robust financial models, and advising senior leaders on high-stakes negotiations.

The Strategic Finance team at Instacart plays a critical role in driving the company's growth and profitability. As a Strategic Finance Manager, you will be responsible for leading financial modeling and scenario analysis for retailer partnerships, serving as the finance partner in negotiations, and building and maintaining partner- and portfolio-level forecasts and P&Ls.

The Retailer pod is a fast-paced and dynamic team that requires a high level of collaboration and communication. As a Strategic Finance Manager, you will work closely with the Partnerships, Legal, Revenue Operations, Accounting, Product, Data Science, and Analytics teams to drive business outcomes and support the company's growth.

What You Will Do

  • Lead financial modeling and scenario analysis for retailer partnerships, including revenue share structures, fee schedules, incentives, media and fulfillment economics
  • Serve as the finance partner in negotiations, shaping pricing strategy, establishing guardrails, drafting approval memos, and aligning cross-functional stakeholders from term sheet to signature
  • Build and maintain partner- and portfolio-level forecasts and P&Ls, defining KPIs, instrumenting tracking, and driving monthly/quarterly performance reviews with Partnerships leadership
  • Design and operationalize scalable deal frameworks, templates, and a deal desk process that improves speed, consistency, and compliance across the Retailer organization
  • Partner with Data Science and Analytics to develop self-serve dashboards and insights that quantify tradeoffs, surface risks, and accelerate decision-making
  • Evaluate and prioritize strategic investments and experiments, defining hypotheses, measurement plans, and success criteria to inform go/no-go decisions
  • Coach and mentor analysts within the pod to elevate modeling rigor, business judgment, and executive-ready storytelling
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the grocery retail industry, including market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory landscape
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, and to develop and implement risk management strategies

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in strategic finance, corporate finance, investment banking, private equity, or management consulting with a focus on commercial deals or partnerships
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Advanced financial modeling skills in Excel or Google Sheets, including multi-scenario and sensitivity analyses for complex, multi-year agreements
  • Proven track record owning the finance workstream end-to-end for complex partnerships or deals
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner with cross-functional teams and advise senior leaders
  • Ability to work in a flexible, remote work environment with a high level of autonomy and self-motivation
  • Strong business judgment and ability to make data-driven decisions

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in the grocery retail or e-commerce industry
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques, such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Certification in finance or accounting, such as CFA or CPA
  • Experience working with cloud-based financial planning and analysis tools, such as Anaplan or Adaptive Insights
