Job Description

About the Role

The Strategic Finance Manager role at Affirm is a critical position that requires a highly analytical and strategic finance leader to join the Strategic Finance team, supporting the Horizontal business lines. The team ensures Affirm remains financially sound and strategically positioned for growth, managing financial planning, accounting, pricing, vendor management, tax, investor relations, and corporate development. As a key member of the Revenue Finance group, you will own consolidated top-line forecasting across users and the loan portfolio, and partner closely with Analytics, Credit, Capital, and Investor Relations to develop a cohesive narrative on portfolio performance.

The role sits within a high-impact, lean team with broad cross-functional ownership, and you will operate as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership, leading critical workstreams across planning, forecasting, and performance management. You will proactively generate insights that cut through ambiguity, drive action, and inform innovation, while shaping high-impact decisions and identifying opportunities to scale the business efficiently and profitably.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, with experience in strategic finance, investment banking, consulting, data science, or analytics. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to Credit, Capital, Product, and Investor Relations, representing Revenue Finance in key forums and driving alignment on performance and priorities
  • Build and own assumption-driven User and portfolio loan mix models by partnering cross-functionally to validate inputs, pressure-test key drivers, and ensure outputs reflect current business dynamics
  • Monitor performance against forecast across portfolio, user, and segment levels; diagnose variances, identify root causes, and deliver forward-looking insights on user trends and the overall loan portfolio to inform adjustments and drive action
  • Own consolidated reporting across Top of Funnel, Conversion, Users, Volume, and Loan Mix; synthesize key drivers including mix, credit, pricing, and commercial impacts
  • Provide decision support on strategic initiatives, evaluating trade-offs and P&L implications to inform business and investment decisions
  • Translate complex analyses into clear, executive-ready narratives that drive insight, inform strategy, and align cross-functional stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support business decisions, including forecasting and scenario planning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, and to develop and implement process improvements
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, and apply this knowledge to drive business growth and improvement

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven ability to operate with ownership and influence in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • 8+ years of experience in analytical roles (e.g., strategic finance, investment banking, consulting, data science, or analytics), with demonstrated impact on business outcomes
  • Strong business judgment, with the ability to connect detailed analyses to broader strategic context and executive-level decisions
  • Experience partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions across cross-functional teams
  • Expert in financial modeling; working knowledge of SQL and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Sigma or similar) preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, with a strong ability to self-motivate and manage time effectively

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with fintech, lending, and payments business models
  • Experience with machine learning or artificial intelligence applications in finance
  • Certification in a professional finance designation (e.g., CFA, CPA)

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with a fast-growing and innovative company
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and education programs
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options
  • Access to cutting-edge technology and tools
  • Comprehensive health and wellness program
  • Generous paid time off and holiday schedule

How to Stand Out

  • Tip: Make sure to highlight your experience with financial modeling and data analysis in your application, as these skills are highly valued in this role.
  • When interviewing, be prepared to walk the interviewer through your process for building and maintaining financial models, and to discuss how you have used data to inform business decisions in the past.
  • To stand out, consider creating a portfolio of your work that demonstrates your ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Be prepared to discuss your experience working with cross-functional teams, and to provide examples of how you have influenced decisions and driven business outcomes.
  • When negotiating salary, be sure to research the market rate for similar roles and to be prepared to make a strong case for your worth.
  • Red flag: If the company is not transparent about their financials or business model, this could be a sign of instability or lack of accountability.
