About the Role
The Strategic Finance, Partnerships role at Openai is a critical position that drives strategic decision-making across the company's growth and media partnership portfolio. As a key member of the Strategic Finance team, you will partner closely with Product and Partnerships to evaluate, price, and structure partnerships, and translate partner opportunities into decision-ready economics and performance management. Your expertise in financial modeling, deal structuring, and performance management will be essential in shaping Openai's approach to partnership unit economics and driving growth.The Strategic Finance team at Openai is responsible for providing financial insights and guidance to support the company's long-term strategy and ambitious growth. The team partners across Product, Partnerships, Engineering, and GTM to allocate resources to the highest-impact opportunities while protecting sustainable unit economics. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams and drive strategic decision-making across the company.
What You Will Do
- Own financial evaluation for growth and media partnerships, including modeling revenue, margin, compute, and payback to support decision-making and negotiations.
- Develop clear economic frameworks and deal guardrails to protect long-term unit economics.
- Partner closely with Product and Partnerships to define and measure incrementality and ensure contract terms align with measurable outcomes.
- Lead partnership deal pricing and structuring from early-stage strategy through final term-sheet negotiations.
- Drive partnership portfolio performance management: establish core metrics, identify leading indicators, track variance to expectations, and surface risks and opportunities.
- Integrate partnership economics into revenue forecasting and planning cycles in partnership with the broader team.
- Identify recurring contract and measurement risks and establish internal governance and review mechanisms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic decision-making and growth.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support partnership decision-making.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to inform business decisions.
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, or buy-side investing coupled with operational experience at a fast-paced, scaling company.
- Strong ability to critically evaluate opportunities and risks in financials.
- Expert modeling skills, including building detailed product P&Ls and operating models.
- Ability to distill complex financial data into actionable insights and effectively communicate with leadership.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to craft compelling narratives using data.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
- Comfort operating in a player-coach capacity—providing mentorship and direction while remaining deeply involved in analytical work.
- Familiarity with business models and metrics relevant to Openai, including contribution margin analysis.
- Strong daily AI workflow habits, including using Codex to move faster on analysis, modeling, documentation, and operating processes.
- Enthusiasm for technology and artificial intelligence.
