About the Role

The Strategic Finance, Product role at Openai is a unique opportunity to drive growth and inform product strategy through financial insights and guidance. As a senior strategic finance thought partner, you will work closely with the Product team to shape the company's self-serve product for teams adopting AI at work. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating growth bets, guiding pricing and packaging decisions, and building the financial rigor that allows the business to scale.

The role is based in San Francisco, CA, with a hybrid work model that offers the flexibility of remote work and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the office. As a key member of the Strategic Finance organization, you will partner with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Growth, Data Science, and Marketing, to allocate resources to the highest-impact opportunities while protecting sustainable unit economics.

Openai's Strategic Finance organization is committed to providing financial insights and guidance to support the company's long-term strategy and ambitious growth. The Applications Technology Strategic Finance team, in particular, plays a critical role in scaling core offerings and bringing new products to market.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a strategic finance partner to ChatGPT Business product teams, helping shape product strategy, growth priorities, pricing decisions, and investment tradeoffs.
  • Own the forecast for ChatGPT Business self-serve, including revenue, usage, margin, unit economics, leading indicators, and the operating metrics that show where the product is gaining or losing traction.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Growth, Data Science, and Marketing leaders on product-led growth initiatives, pricing and packaging decisions, experiments, channel strategy, and new product launches.
  • Translate product usage, customer behavior, funnel dynamics, and financial data into clear recommendations that influence both long-term strategy and day-to-day product decisions.
  • Build planning and performance systems that help the team move faster, including forecast methodology, KPI architecture, decision frameworks, executive narratives, and repeatable reporting.
  • Stay up to date on AI, SaaS, product-led growth, pricing, and competitive dynamics to inform where Openai should invest and how the business model should evolve.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality executive and Board materials that connect business performance, product strategy, key risks, and strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Finance team to develop and implement financial models, forecasts, and analysis to support business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including product leaders, engineers, and other cross-functional teams.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, strategic finance, product finance, growth finance, or buy-side investing, coupled with operating experience at a fast-paced, scaling technology company.
  • Experience supporting product teams on growth, pricing, packaging, monetization, or product strategy decisions, ideally in product-led growth, growth-stage SaaS, consumer/subscription products, or consumption-based business models.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills, including building product P&Ls, operating models, cohort and funnel analyses, pricing models, and unit economics that connect strategy to growth decisions.
  • Strong business judgment and product instincts, with the ability to evaluate opportunities, tradeoffs, and risks in a fast-moving product environment.
  • The ability to translate complex product, usage, customer, and financial data into clear recommendations for Product teams and senior leadership.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, paired with comfort making decisions when data is imperfect and the business is evolving.
  • Familiarity with product-led growth and experience working with cross-functional teams to drive growth initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with AI, machine learning, or related technologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based financial planning and analysis tools, such as Anaplan or Adaptive Insights.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Certification in finance, such as CFA or CPA.

  • Flexible remote work arrangement with a hybrid model that offers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the office.
