About the Role

The Strategic Investments & Consolidation Accounting Director will play a pivotal role in Openai's financial management, overseeing the accounting, governance, and reporting processes related to strategic investments, consolidation matters, and complex transactions. This position is critical in ensuring the company's financial health and compliance with regulatory requirements. As a key member of the finance team, the director will work closely with various stakeholders, including Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Strategic Finance, to provide expert guidance on accounting implications and operational processes.

The role is based in San Francisco, with a hybrid work model that includes three days in the office per week, offering a balance between collaborative work and remote flexibility. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the growth and success of Openai.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the accounting, reporting, and governance processes for strategic investments, ensuring timely and accurate financial information.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify accounting implications of investments and complex transactions, and develop practical operating guidance.
  • Develop and maintain scalable operating models and governance frameworks that support the consistent implementation of accounting conclusions.
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting, Controllership, and Strategic Finance to ensure high-quality financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise and operational leadership to drive business growth and improve financial processes.
  • Work closely with external auditors, advisors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless audit processes and compliance.
  • Develop and implement processes to monitor and report on strategic investments, ensuring effective governance and risk management.
  • Translate accounting conclusions into practical and sustainable operating processes, including close procedures, accounting entries, and systems requirements.
  • Partner with the Technical Accounting team to evaluate complex transactions and provide accounting guidance.
