About the Role

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is seeking a Strategy and Engagement Officer to join their team in Cardiff. As a key member of the Nations Strategy and Engagement Team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the department's priorities across the UK. Your expertise in policy development, programme delivery, and stakeholder engagement will be instrumental in driving the success of key projects and initiatives.

The Nations Strategy and Engagement Team provides resource across the department to ensure the delivery of its commitments across the UK. With presence across the UK's four capital cities, the team leverages local intelligence, devolution expertise, and strong relationships with stakeholders to support the delivery of the department's vision. You will be working closely with team leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that the department achieves its goals and that resources are optimally allocated.

The role entails working in a fast-paced environment, supporting the planning, execution, and monitoring of work areas across the team. You will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the department's activities in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as supporting engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of work areas across the team, ensuring alignment with stakeholder requirements and departmental priorities.
  • Monitor and report on the department's activities in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to support the development of UK-wide policies, strategies, and legislation.
  • Support engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, including local authorities, devolved governments, and other government departments.
  • Identify and track emerging trends, risks, and opportunities through regular horizon scanning and analysis, helping the team stay informed and responsive.
  • Ensure the smooth functionality of the team, ensuring products and tools are kept up to date and accurate, making use of AI and other tools to maximize the efficient use of information and reporting.
  • Contribute to the positive, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.
  • Share knowledge, support colleagues, and help drive continuous improvement across the team.
  • Support the co-ordination and management of activity across the team.
  • Drive the success of key projects and initiatives across the team.
  • Coordinate engagement with various stakeholders across the department and externally.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage activity across the team.
  • Experience with data analysis tools, such as Adjust and Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
  • Strong understanding of the UK's devolution landscape and the role of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a government department or a related field.
