Job Description

About the Role

The Strategy & Planning Manager, Caper Sales, plays a crucial role in driving the growth of Instacart's Caper technology. As a key member of the Business Development team, this individual will be responsible for strategically selling Caper into a portfolio of key enterprise retailers. This involves working closely with the Business Development team to design and implement selling strategies, identifying and building strong relationships with key decision-makers, and creating compelling presentations and proposals.

The role is centred around developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy that drives revenue growth for Caper and Instacart. This includes negotiating and closing complex contracts, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to develop creative solutions, and continuously refining sales strategies based on market feedback and analysis.

As part of the Strategy & Planning team, the successful candidate will be working in a dynamic environment that requires strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The team sits at the nexus of internal teams and Business Development, driving go-to-market strategies and providing recommendations backed by strategic rationale and analytical rigor.

What You Will Do

  • Own responsibility for strategically selling Caper into a portfolio of key enterprise retailers
  • Work together with Business Development to design and implement selling strategies that drive revenue growth for Caper and Instacart
  • Identify, build, and maintain strong relationships with key Caper decision-makers and influencers
  • Create and deliver compelling Caper and/or Connected Stores presentations and proposals to retailers
  • Negotiate and close complex Caper contracts with retailers
  • Collaborate with Connected Stores MS&P and Caper sales to enhance the overall go-to-market strategy and processes for Caper
  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders across several functions including Product, Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Partnerships
  • Develop creative solutions that drive results for Caper and retailers
  • Continuously refine sales strategies based on market feedback and analysis
  • Travel as needed to meet with retailers and stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience working on cutting-edge challenges in the grocery or retail space
  • Excellent communication, written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to distil complex ideas into clear and compelling stories
  • Self-starter able to proactively and independently drive progress across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Experience selling or expanding high-tech products or services, preferably in the retail industry
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales/OKR targets
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a rapidly evolving business landscape
  • Strong technical skills and understanding of APIs, databases, and integration tools
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Proficiency in Excel and other data analysis tools

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data analysis and modeling
  • Knowledge of the grocery or retail industry, including trends and challenges
  • Familiarity with smart cart technology and its applications
  • Certification in sales or a related field
