## About the Role The Student Success Advisor plays a pivotal role in creating a seamless and supportive experience for online students from the moment they inquire about a program to the day they graduate. This position is integral to the Boise State Online advising team, which is dedicated to providing a positive and empowering experience for all students. The advisor works closely with students to enhance their academic planning, satisfaction, persistence, and ultimate retention, ensuring that each student has the tools and information needed to achieve their academic goals. The role involves working in a dynamic environment, often using technology such as Zoom, chat, and email to provide real-time support to students. The advisor must be highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and manage their time effectively to meet the demands of a remote work setting. - Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and other university staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive academic environment.
- Utilize Excel and other software tools to track student enrollment, degree plans, and progress towards graduation.
- Provide guidance and support to students facing academic difficulties, helping them to develop strategies for overcoming challenges and achieving academic success.
- Engage in continuous and intentional outreach to students at key points in their academic journey to monitor progress, provide feedback, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
- Collaborate with faculty and other advisors to ensure that advising practices are aligned with current best practices and university policies.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with trends and innovations in academic advising and online education.
- Contribute to the development of advising materials, workshops, and other resources designed to support student success.
- Analyze data and feedback from students to identify areas for improvement in advising services and contribute to the implementation of changes.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, respect, and empathy in all interactions with students, recognizing the diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and goals that students bring to their academic pursuits.
- At least two years of experience in academic advising or a related field, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using technology, including learning management systems, student information systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work in a remote setting, with reliability and consistency in meeting deadlines and responding to communications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and best practices in advising, with a commitment to staying current with developments in the field.
- Experience with or willingness to learn about online education platforms and tools.
- Previous experience working with students in online or distance education programs.
- Familiarity with CRM software or other tools used in academic advising.
