Job Description
About the Role
The Subsidence Consultant role is a critical part of Davies North America's technical claims operation, providing expert guidance on subsidence issues affecting domestic and commercial properties. As a key member of the team, you will take ownership of a portfolio of claims, using your professional judgement, engineering knowledge, and problem-solving skills to drive fair, timely, and high-quality outcomes for customers.In this role, you will work from a home-based environment, combining technical expertise with strong communication skills to support policyholders during what can be a stressful time. Your goal will be to ensure that customers feel informed, reassured, and treated fairly throughout the process.

You will have the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders, including surveyors, suppliers, and other specialists, to diagnose structural defects and determine the causes of damage.
What You Will Do
- Manage a varied caseload of domestic and commercial subsidence claims, ensuring all service level agreements are consistently met
- Assess, validate, settle, or decline claims within your delegated authority, applying sound technical reasoning and insurance liability principles
- Diagnose structural defects and the causes of damage using information gathered by surveyors, suppliers, and other specialists
- Provide expert guidance on subsidence issues, using your technical knowledge and professional judgement to drive high-quality outcomes
- Communicate effectively with policyholders, keeping them informed and reassured throughout the claims process
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including surveyors, suppliers, and other specialists, to resolve complex claims
- Apply your problem-solving skills to evaluate complex information and make sound decisions
- Prioritize your workload effectively, managing your time and resources to meet service level agreements
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of claims, including documentation of decisions and actions taken
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices, applying your knowledge to continuously improve the claims process
What We Are Looking For
- A recognized professional building qualification (e.g., MICE, MRICS, MCIOB, MIStructE, MCABE) or active progression towards one
- Relevant experience in the insurance industry, with a solid understanding of liability considerations and subsidence-related issues
- Strong technical knowledge of structural defects and subsidence-related issues
- The ability to diagnose building damage remotely using supplied evidence
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence multiple stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset, with the ability to evaluate complex information and make sound decisions
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize effectively
- High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes
