About the Role
The Lead Substation Engineer role is a critical position within ControlPoint Technologies' Substation Engineering team. As a key player, you will provide project leadership and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of substation projects for electric utilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing projects from conception to completion, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing client-facing solutions.The substation engineering team is responsible for designing and developing substations that meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. As a lead engineer, you will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, reviewing designs, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
What You Will Do
- Provide project leadership and technical expertise for substation projects
- Manage projects from conception to completion, including design, construction, and testing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including civil, structural, and protection control engineering
- Develop and review substation designs, including general arrangement, control house layout, grounding, and lightning protection
- Prepare calculations for studies and reports, including grounding, lightning protection, voltage drop, and AC/DC load studies
- Support and coordinate engineering and design related to civil/structural aspects of substation designs
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
- Perform quality control and assurance reviews
- Support construction activities, including site visits and testing
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Coordinate with protection control engineering teams
- Develop and review construction specifications and material lists
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering Licensure (PE) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) on path to Professional Engineering licensure
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the electric utility industry
- Experience in utility substation engineering with a focus on electrical or physical aspects of design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong project management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines
- Outgoing team player with the ability to provide client confidence
Nice to Have
- Experience with substation engineering software and tools
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- Certification in project management or a related field
