Job Description

About the Role

The Substation Engineer will play a critical role in designing utility-scale substations, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, particularly in the context of power delivery. As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for performing specific and limited portions of a broader assignment, gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established procedures.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on high-voltage substation design projects, with a strong foundation in electrical engineering and proficiency in AutoCAD and Excel. You will be working on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests, proposing approaches to solve new problems encountered, and identifying discrepancies in results.

What You Will Do

  • Design utility-scale substations, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established procedures
  • Perform detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered
  • Identify discrepancies in results
  • Work on specific and limited portions of a broader assignment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of engineering data and calculations

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • 2 years of relevant experience in substation design
  • Experience with high-voltage substation design
  • EIT Certification
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Bentley Microstation
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles
  • Attention to detail and ability to check the quality of own and others’ work
  • Ability to use sound engineering judgment

Nice to Have

  • Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire
  • Knowledge of construction practices and constructability
  • Experience with proposal writing and project estimating
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC)
