Job Description

About the Role

The Supplier Master Data Lead role at Openai is a critical component of the company's procurement operations. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for leading and maturing the supplier data foundation, with a focus on data integrity, scalable processes, and automation readiness. This is not a traditional supplier administration role, but rather an opportunity to reimagine how supplier administration operates in an AI-enabled procurement environment.

The successful candidate will be hands-on in supplier administration, while also helping to build the next version of how the work gets done. This will involve partnering closely with various stakeholders, including Procurement, Accounting, Finance, Third Party Risk Management, Legal, Tax, Security, and business teams. The goal is to strengthen supplier onboarding, supplier updates, banking and tax data controls, data cleanup, process standardization, and supplier risk review support.

Openai is a company that is pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI-enabled procurement. As such, this role presents a unique opportunity for the right candidate to be at the forefront of this revolution. With a strong focus on digital skills and remote work, this position is ideal for someone who is looking to make a real impact in the industry.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and mature the supplier data foundation, with a focus on data integrity, scalable processes, and automation readiness
  • Partner with various stakeholders to strengthen supplier onboarding, supplier updates, banking and tax data controls, data cleanup, process standardization, and supplier risk review support
  • Identify opportunities for AI adoption and workflow design to reduce friction, improve throughput, and strengthen risk visibility
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including Procurement, Accounting, Finance, Third Party Risk Management, Legal, Tax, Security, and business teams
  • Collaborate with the team to design and implement scalable processes and automation solutions
  • Analyze and resolve complex supplier data issues, providing expert advice and guidance to stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain documentation of supplier data management processes and procedures
  • Provide training and support to stakeholders on supplier data management best practices
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in supplier data management, AI adoption, and workflow design

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in supplier master data, vendor onboarding, procurement operations, accounts payable, finance operations, or a related procure-to-pay role
  • High AI fluency, with demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve how work gets done, reduce manual effort, strengthen analysis, improve documentation, and create scalable operating leverage
  • Strong understanding of how supplier data impacts purchasing, invoicing, payments, reporting, compliance, financial controls, supplier risk management, and business decision-making
  • Ability to improve operational processes through better data, automation, workflow design, and exception-based ways of working
  • Strong systems orientation, with the ability to understand how data flows across procurement and finance platforms
  • High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership for data accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Ability to identify patterns in operational issues and translate them into better processes, standards, controls, and system improvements
  • Practical judgment around AI adoption — knowing where AI can accelerate work, where human review matters, and how to build trust in new ways of working
  • Comfort working across Procurement, Finance, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Tax, Legal, Security, Third Party Risk Management, and business stakeholders
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain process requirements in a practical, enablement-focused way

Nice to Have

  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Flexible working hours and remote work arrangements
  • Access to the latest technology and tools
  • Recognition and reward for outstanding performance
  • Comprehensive health and wellness program
  • Generous paid time off and holiday leave
