About the Role
At Twilio, the Applied Research Tech Lead plays a crucial role in shaping the future of communications through emerging technologies. As part of the incubation lab, Twilio Forward, this position involves contributing hands-on technical expertise, collaborating on rapid prototyping, and developing innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about pushing boundaries, unlocking next-era growth, and turning the once-unimagined into reality.The role entails working closely with cross-functional partners to design and build new product ideas, leveraging modern technologies and problem-solving abilities. As part of the Emerging Tech team, you will pioneer Horizon-3 initiatives that fundamentally redefine how humanity interacts with artificial intelligence.
What You Will Do
- Architect and deliver high-stakes prototypes and robust, production-ready solutions
- Spearhead AI R&D, driving the technical direction and collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Experiment with, validate, and integrate AI, machine learning, and frontier technologies
- Establish governance for code reviews and pioneer continuous improvements
- Collaborate on rapid prototyping and develop innovative solutions
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to design and build new product ideas
- Leverage modern technologies and problem-solving abilities to drive innovation
- Enable rapid experimentation in partnership with the ETI tech lead
- Contribute to the development of the control room for the autonomous future
- Build and launch groundbreaking projects like Ola and the Agent-to-Human (A2H) protocol
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, preferably in emerging technologies
- Strong technical expertise in AI, machine learning, and software development
- Experience with rapid prototyping and delivering production-ready solutions
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of modern technologies and their applications
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and driving technical direction
- Excellent communication and governance skills
- Passion for pushing boundaries and unlocking next-era growth
Nice to Have
- Experience with frontier technologies such as augmented reality, blockchain, or quantum computing
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and experience with continuous integration and delivery
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and scalability
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
