About the Role
The Technical Deployment Lead position at OpenAI represents a critical role in the company's mission to empower semiconductor customers with cutting-edge AI solutions. As part of the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team, you will be responsible for defining how OpenAI delivers complex systems to these customers, ensuring that solutions are scoped, built, shipped, and adopted seamlessly across high-value engineering workflows. Your day-to-day will involve translating business outcomes into technical plans, running the execution of these plans across various teams, and partnering with customer teams to ensure delivery supports their goals.The FDE team operates at the unique intersection of deployment and development, working closely with OpenAI Research, Product, and Partnerships. This role is about driving the delivery of next-generation AI capabilities focused on the semiconductor vertical, with a focus on end-to-end ownership of the delivery process. This includes embedding with customers to map workflows and success criteria, ensuring components are shipped on time, and leading readiness and change management efforts for adoption.
What You Will Do
- Own the technical delivery plan for multiple interdependent work streams, translating customer objectives into a detailed roadmap with clear milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
- Run day-to-day engineering execution by tracking and driving delivery across OpenAI FDE and customer teams, ensuring progress remains unblocked and sequenced.
- Embed with Semiconductor customer teams to land production deployments and drive adoption, mapping workflows, shaping tools and integrations, and translating requirements into a delivery plan.
- Shape production deployments that integrate with customer infrastructure, data systems, and engineering toolchains, including environments with export controls.
- Partner with Product and Research teams to ensure platform components and research work streams are aligned to support deployment goals.
- Codify solution patterns and evaluations to extract reusable patterns and package field signals that can improve product and models.
- Own value cases and ROI, setting impact hypotheses, baselines, and KPIs, and running pre- and post-deployment measurements to report to executive sponsors.
- Help define how OpenAI engages with Semiconductor customers to deliver value-added solutions.
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of customer-facing technical delivery leadership experience.
- Deep expertise in Semiconductor workflows, including RTL design, verification, EDA tooling, and physical implementation.
- A track record of successfully leading large, complex, high-stakes customer engagements where customer outcomes depended on tight coordination and fast decision-making, ideally involving AI.
- Excellence in high-ambiguity environments, with the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Strong technical project management skills, with experience in managing interdependent work streams.
- Ability to immerse in customer workflows and partner with customer teams to solve complex engineering problems at pace.
- Experience with hybrid work models and willingness to travel between 25-50% for customer engagements.
