About the Role

The Technical Lead, Power System Studies, will play a key role in Stantec's Power System Studies Center of Excellence. As a senior electrical engineer, you will oversee a team of engineers in the execution of EMT studies for various power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution levels. Your team will work on cutting-edge projects, pushing the boundaries of clean energy and grid modernization.

The role involves managing and overseeing a strong technical team in the day-to-day delivery of studies, as well as leading business development, client relations, and technical proposal preparation. You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for the power system studies team, keeping up-to-date with current and emerging industry trends, and participating in various IEEE and CIGRE working groups.

What You Will Do

  • Provide direct project leadership on EMT power system studies projects
  • Carry out and provide guidance to the studies team on developing study methodologies, preparing models and project study cases, analyzing simulation results, and identifying system issues and possible mitigation strategies
  • Meet with clients to report on project progress, interim and final study results
  • Provide technical support to projects in the areas of AC and DC transmission system design and operation
  • Ensure that high-quality project deliverables are prepared in a timely manner, meeting project schedules and budgets
  • Assign resources to projects to provide high-quality, on-time delivery of results
  • Participate in corporate marketing and business development activities related to power system studies
  • Prepare proposals, including development of methodology, staffing requirements, and labor and expense cost estimates
  • Manage client relations with respect to business development activities and work assignments
  • Grow and develop a network of industry connections within the power system global community

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in power system studies, with a focus on EMT analysis
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Excel and experience with simulation tools and techniques
  • Excellent leadership and management abilities, with experience in managing teams and client relationships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders
  • Experience in business development and proposal preparation
  • Knowledge of emerging industry trends and directions in HVDC and IBR control and protection design and simulation

Nice to Have

  • Experience with IEEE and CIGRE working groups
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and energy storage systems
  • Experience with grid modernization and microgrid design
  • Certification in a related field, such as PE or CPEng
