About the Role
The Technical Sales Specialist will represent Thermo Fisher Scientific's Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, and Thermo Scientific Molecular Biology and Cloning portfolios, supporting academic, government, biotech, and pharmaceutical customers. This role is remotely based in the United States and requires frequent interaction with customers across multiple states through face-to-face meetings, teleconferences, and email communications. As a key member of the Sales & Marketing team, the Technical Sales Specialist will be responsible for driving sales growth and profitability within the assigned territory.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of molecular biology techniques and experience in technical sales. They will be responsible for responding to customer inquiries, providing technical support, and identifying new sales opportunities. The Technical Sales Specialist will work closely with the commercial team to develop and execute sales strategies, provide revenue forecasts, and share territory intelligence.
The role is part of the Biosciences Division, which offers a wide range of products and services to support research, clinical, and commercial production. The division is committed to innovation and customer satisfaction, and the Technical Sales Specialist will play a key role in driving growth and expansion.
What You Will Do
- Respond efficiently to customer requests and provide technical support
- Establish technical credibility and develop relationships with accounts and colleagues
- Apply technical and business knowledge to present an attractive value proposition to customers
- Prospect for new business, qualify sales leads, and generate a strong opportunity funnel
- Continually advance opportunities to close business
- Serve established accounts by tackling technical inquiries and ensuring continuity of product supply
- Acquire reagent forecasts quarterly/annually and communicate forecasts with internal teams
- Nurture existing customer relationships to spread business within the account, grow reagent attachment, and protect against competition
- Understand the strengths and vulnerabilities of competitors
- Contribute to team strategies to overcome competitive obstacles and address opportunities
- Develop a territory business plan and update it according to business and market changes
- Provide revenue forecasts and reporting on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a life science field
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques
- 5+ years of experience in the life sciences industry
- 3+ years of technical sales experience (or equivalent work experience) in life sciences
- Strong understanding of molecular biology and cloning applications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. without assistance

- Experience with sales forecasting and revenue reporting
