About the Role

The Telco Field Engineering Director role at Canonical is a unique opportunity to lead a global team of experts in cloud solutions architecture. As a key member of the Field Engineering department, you will be responsible for driving strategy, developing talent, and promoting open source technologies to telco customers worldwide. Your day will be filled with technical presales conversations, solving customer problems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop managers and teams of Field engineers in the areas of Presales and Professional Services
  • Drive strategy and direction for telco field engineering teams globally
  • Solve customer problems by promoting Canonical's open source technologies and providing technical expertise
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product development
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and partners
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, driving revenue growth and expansion
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on cloud solutions, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes
  • Participate in technical presales conversations, providing expert advice and guidance to customers
  • Contribute to the development of Canonical's telco strategy, aligning with company goals and objectives
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience in leading technical teams, preferably in a cloud computing or telco environment
  • Strong technical background in cloud solutions, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and partners
  • Experience in driving strategy and direction for technical teams, with a strong understanding of business goals and objectives
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git
  • Strong understanding of open source software and its applications in the telco industry
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, for customer meetings, conferences, and team gatherings

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, such as Jenkins, GitLab, or CircleCI
