About the Role

The Trade Advisory Lead role at Flexport is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in trade compliance and duty minimization strategies to drive business growth. As a key member of the Trade Advisory team, you will lead and mentor other team members to address complex trade issues and identify cost savings opportunities for clients. The team consists of business consultants, lawyers, and licensed customs brokers who provide advanced customs and trade expertise to help clients navigate the ever-changing regulatory landscape.

The role entails managing trade advisory projects, performing analytics and reporting, and providing insights and recommendations to clients. You will also be responsible for staying informed on the latest customs and government agency regulations, as well as industry trends, and educating the team on these developments. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and business writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage trade advisory projects that focus on trade compliance and duty minimization strategies
  • Perform, coordinate, and support Trade Advisory analytics and reporting from a variety of sources
  • Monitor deadlines and draft client deliverables for multiple projects at a given time
  • Proactively stay informed on the latest customs and other government agency regulations, ruling issuances, and industry trends
  • Ensure project timelines, statuses, and invoices are appropriately managed and delivered
  • Coordinate and facilitate software solutions, automation of data analytics, improvement of SOPs, ACE portal access, applications, and integrations
  • Interface with CBP and clients, offering timely responses and elevating issues when necessary
  • Maintain active communication with clients, customs and other government authorities, and internal stakeholders
  • Support Trade Advisory infrastructure and administrative requirements
  • Contribute to team development and best practices

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • Licensed Customs Broker required, J.D. or graduate degree highly preferred
  • 5-7 years of trade-related experience working in-house, at customs brokerage, consulting, or law firm
  • Strong technical and business writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite and Google equivalents
  • Strong data analytical skills
  • Strong industry knowledge, including classification, valuation, reconciliation, duty minimization, and avoidance strategies

Nice to Have

  • Experience with software solutions, automation of data analytics, and improvement of SOPs
  • Knowledge of ACE portal access, applications, and integrations
  • Familiarity with government regulations and ruling issuances
  • Certification in a related field, such as customs brokerage or international trade
