About the Role
The Transportation Utility Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting transportation infrastructure projects across the East Central Region, including Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with project managers, designers, utility owners, and public agencies to evaluate utility impacts, support utility conflict analysis, and coordinate relocations. Your expertise in utility coordination, technical writing, and project management will be essential in delivering high-quality transportation projects.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, with a focus on transportation infrastructure and utility coordination. You will be working closely with a team of professionals who are passionate about delivering innovative solutions and making a positive impact on communities.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and utility owners to evaluate utility impacts and develop effective solutions
- Support utility conflict analysis and coordinate relocations to ensure minimal disruptions to projects
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date utility documentation, including records of utility agreements and relocation plans
- Develop and implement technical writing guidelines for utility procedures, manuals, and training programs
- Contribute to research initiatives that support state and national infrastructure programs
- Work closely with public agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with utility owners, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Participate in project meetings and ensure effective communication of utility coordination plans and issues
- Identify and mitigate potential utility-related risks to projects
- Develop and track project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans
- Coordinate with other teams, including design, construction, and operations, to ensure seamless project delivery
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field)
- 3+ years of related work experience in utility coordination, utility engineering, or transportation infrastructure
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate or other related certifications
- Experience with technical writing for utility procedures, manuals, or training
- Strong communication, organization, and stakeholder coordination skills
- Familiarity with MicroStation and engineering software
- INDOT Certified Utility Coordinator or ability to obtain certification
- Experience working with public agencies and utility owners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with transportation infrastructure projects in the East Central Region
- Knowledge of state and national infrastructure programs
- Familiarity with research initiatives and technical writing guidelines
