Job Description

About the Role

The Turbine Resident Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting the customer in identifying plant risks and problems, recommending suitable solutions to improve plant performance and availability. This role entails a deep understanding of steam turbines and associated equipment, as well as the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues. As a key member of the GE Vernova team, the successful candidate will work closely with clients to provide technical expertise and support.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include performing plant walk downs, attending technical discussion meetings, and providing detailed reports to clients. The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams is essential. The Turbine Resident Engineer will also be responsible for staying up-to-date with the latest engineering designs and developments, and informing clients of potential improvements to plant design.

What You Will Do

  • Perform comprehensive plant walk downs to identify potential risks and issues
  • Attend 3-monthly technical discussion meetings with clients and other stakeholders
  • Provide detailed reports to clients on plant performance and recommendations for improvement
  • Be available for emergency consultation during unplanned turbine failure incidents
  • Inform clients of the latest engineering designs and developments that may improve plant design
  • Assist with compiling technical specifications for the refurbishment of turbine components
  • Provide turbine-related training to clients as needed
  • Communicate with the OEM on technical matters and provide information as required
  • Revise, monitor, and update GE Vernova documentation to ensure correct application of operating and maintenance procedures
  • Compile technical specifications for plant operation and maintenance
  • Identify and optimize spares to support planned overhauls and other maintenance
  • Determine maintenance requirements and scope of work prior to general overhauls
  • Recommend scope of work for all major planned outages
  • Investigate and report on turbine occurrences
  • Record monthly all significant abnormal events and occurrences

What We Are Looking For

  • B Tech, B Eng, or BSc.Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in the engineering, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of steam turbines and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of GEC (Duvha, Tutuka & Majuba Power Stations) Steam Turbine Technology is advantageous
  • Good team player with research and organizational skills, and a proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, and commitment
  • Ability to work off-hours and weekends to support emergency issue resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Good working knowledge of Control and Instrumentation applicable to Steam Turbine Plant
  • Proficiency in Excel and other relevant software

  • Experience working with similar steam turbine technology
  • Knowledge of plant operation and maintenance procedures

  • Certification in mechanical engineering or a related field
