About the Role
The UK Internship Program at Perplexity is an intensive 13-week program designed for exceptional Master's or PhD students studying Computer Science or Engineering in the UK. As an intern, you will work directly with the AI Inference team, responsible for running the models behind Perplexity's products. The team maintains the inference engine and deployments behind models, focusing on latency and throughput. You will be part of a rapidly growing AI startup, working on cutting-edge technology and collaborating with experienced professionals.The AI Inference team is responsible for the entire serving stack, from GPU kernels to networking and monitoring infrastructure. As an intern, you will contribute to improving serving latency and throughput, bringing up support for new models, and optimizing inference across the entire stack. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to the growth of a leading AI company.
What You Will Do
- Work with the inference team to improve serving latency and throughput
- Bring up support for new models and state-of-the-art inference optimizations or quantization schemes
- Optimize inference across the entire stack, from GPU kernels to serving endpoints
- Collaborate with the team to maintain the inference engine and deployments behind models
- Contribute to the development of new features and models
- Participate in code reviews and ensure high-quality code
- Test and validate new models and optimizations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new models and features
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in AI and machine learning
What We Are Looking For
- Strong engineering track record with proven knowledge of fundamentals and programming languages
- Pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science with a focus on performance-related subjects
- Experience with ML frameworks such as Torch or JAX
- Experience with GPU programming using CUDA or Triton
- Experience with High-Performance Computing using OpenMPI
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Nice to Have
- Experience with distributed systems and networking
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Participation in open-source projects or personal coding projects
