About the Role
As an Underwater Acoustics Senior Consultant at SLR Consulting Ltd, you will play a vital role in supporting a wide range of clients by leading underwater acoustics modelling and assessment. Your expertise will be essential in translating project activities into reliable predictions and clear reports. You will be part of a globally connected acoustics and vibration team, collaborating across specialties while serving as a senior consultant in underwater acoustics.The day-to-day experience depends on the projects underway, but typically includes developing and running underwater sound propagation and exposure models, supporting or leading source characterization, and processing and interpreting underwater acoustic datasets. You will work with monitoring teams to plan and design underwater noise monitoring campaigns, including approach, instrumentation considerations, and data deliverables. Some fieldwork may be required depending on location and project needs.

What You Will Do
- Develop and run underwater sound propagation and exposure models, including defining inputs, assumptions, sensitivity checks, and uncertainty
- Support or lead source characterization, including review of measurement data, literature values, equipment specifications, and deriving model-ready source terms
- Process and interpret underwater acoustic datasets, including QA checks, event identification, and summary metrics
- Work with monitoring teams to plan and design underwater noise monitoring campaigns, including approach, instrumentation considerations, and data deliverables
- Streamline and standardize workflows for modelling, data processing, and reporting
- Build templates, guidance, and repeatable methods that improve consistency and efficiency
- Prepare and present clear, defensible technical outputs, including methods, figures, and reporting suitable for environmental assessments, permitting, and peer review
- Provide QA/QC review of internal and external deliverables
- Coordinate with project managers to maintain schedule and budgets, including supporting proposals, task planning, and technical resourcing
- Mentor less experienced team members, especially around modelling approach, data handling, and report quality
- Contribute to business development and growth, including client support, technical thought leadership, and helping shape service offerings in underwater acoustics

- Experience with Excel and other relevant software
- Proven track record of leading underwater acoustics modelling and assessment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills

- Experience with monitoring and mitigation strategies that protect marine environments and guide responsible development
- Knowledge of environmental assessments, compliance programs, stakeholder and regulator responses, and dispute resolution or expert input
- Strong understanding of underwater acoustic datasets, including spectral and time series data
Nice to Have
- Experience with coastal and offshore development projects, including ports and terminals, dredging and marine construction, offshore energy, subsea cables, and nearshore infrastructure
- Knowledge of vessel and operational noise assessments, cumulative effects considerations, and support to permitting and environmental approvals
- Experience with technical support to environmental assessments, compliance programs, stakeholder and regulator responses, and dispute resolution or expert input
- Familiarity with fieldwork requirements and underwater noise monitoring campaigns
