About the Role
The Underwriting Assistant role at Crum & Forster is a critical support position within the Business Services Group, designed to facilitate the efficient workflow of the underwriting team. This involves proactive communication, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative mindset to ensure that internal and external deadlines are met. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team, with a deep knowledge of company tools, rating methods, and business unit goals.Day-to-day, the Underwriting Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including preparing documents, participating in pre-renewal meetings, and managing account documentation. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The Underwriting Assistant will also be the point of contact for agents, wholesalers, and internal departments, necessitating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
What You Will Do
- Partner with Underwriters to establish support needs for renewals and new business policies
- Prepare documents and participate in pre-renewal meetings
- Prepare underwriting and pricing exhibits, including exposures, experience rating, profit and loss analysis, and expense models
- Manage account documentation, including proposals, agreement letters, reinsurance contracts, and policy changes
- Ensure accurate and timely servicing and billing of accounts
- Communicate with brokers, agencies, wholesalers, and internal departments
- Prepare quotes by reviewing exposures and experience rating, and updating account information and prices as necessary
- Complete renewals based on formal guidelines
- Provide information for regulatory compliance
- Participate in projects and assignments as requested
What We Are Looking For
- Three or more years of insurance experience related to rate, quote, and issuance of P&C Insurance
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to assign class codes and handle bureau criticisms independently
- Experience with Professional Liability (E&O) is a plus
- Continuous improvement mindset and ability to access situations promptly and take appropriate action
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to meet standards set and work collaboratively as part of a team

- Knowledge of state rules and regulations
- Experience with underwriting support processes and workflow
