About the Role
The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international think tank that advocates for the application of blockchain and other data technologies to combat climate change. As a Technology Officer, you will be part of a team of dedicated professionals working on cutting-edge projects that aim to support the global fight against climate change. This role is an exciting opportunity for tech professionals to apply their skills to make a meaningful impact.The BCI is a volunteer-led organization, and this role is an unpaid volunteering position. However, it offers a unique chance to work with a talented team of professionals, develop new skills, and contribute to a noble cause. You will be working closely with other Technology Officers, researchers, and stakeholders to drive projects forward and achieve the BCI's mission.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical support for members of working groups in areas such as renewable energy, carbon trading, forest monitoring, and natural resource management
- Develop and implement data-driven pipelines to deliver valuable insights and support project goals
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and other statistical models to drive project outcomes
- Work with stakeholders to establish strategic partnerships and identify opportunities for collaboration
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and reports for projects and initiatives
- Attend conferences and events to promote the BCI and communicate research findings
- Engage with key stakeholders to identify and prioritize project requirements
- Support the development of technical proposals and grant applications
What We Are Looking For
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java/C#, JavaScript, R, Scala, Go)
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to balance competing demands under pressure
- Sense of mission and willingness to learn about climate change and sustainability
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Strong presentation skills and ability to present ideas persuasively
- Proficiency in Excel and other productivity software
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Familiarity with blockchain technology and distributed ledger systems
- Knowledge of natural language processing and computer vision
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
