About the Role

The Vector Control role at COMO The Treasury is a critical position that requires a skilled professional to manage and prevent the spread of vectors such as mosquitoes and rodents. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting properties, lands, and facilities to determine the presence of vectors and developing effective control strategies. This role is essential in maintaining the health and well-being of the community, and the ideal candidate will have a strong passion for public health and a keen eye for detail.

The Vector Control specialist will work closely with the Assistant Chief Engineer and other team members to ensure that all aspects of vector control are managed effectively. This will involve conducting regular inspections, monitoring progress, and responding to complaints and requests for vector control services. The role will also require the development of compliance notices and reports, as well as the operation and maintenance of specialized vector control tools and equipment.

What You Will Do

  • Inspect properties, lands, and facilities to determine the presence of vectors such as mosquitoes and rodents
  • Develop and implement effective vector control strategies, including source reduction and pest prevention measures
  • Conduct regular monitoring and surveillance to ensure the effectiveness of vector control efforts
  • Respond to complaints and requests for vector control services in a timely and professional manner
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain vector breeding sources, inventory, maps, and records
  • Spray, treat, and bait to control invertebrate or vertebrate vectors using judgment in selecting appropriate materials and methods
  • Conduct source reduction and suggest pest prevention measures such as exclusion, sanitation, draining, filling small bodies of standing waters, eliminating harborage, improving storage practices, and modifying and/or eliminating vegetation
  • Write compliance notices and reports
  • Complete investigation and inspection forms
  • Operate and maintain a variety of specialized vector control tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Follow and enforce agriculture and pesticide codes and policies pertaining to vector management and control

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in vector control, pest management, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of pesticide application equipment, calibration, and safety practices
  • Understanding of vector prevention, control methods, and techniques, including source reduction, biological control, and chemical control
  • Familiarity with vector control equipment, vehicle operation, and safety practices
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
