Job Description

About the Role

The Venture Analyst role at RockawayX is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative investment team focused on sourcing, evaluating, and supporting early-stage investments in the crypto space. This role will allow you to develop broad coverage across crypto verticals, build technical fluency to engage credibly with founders, and create detailed investment memos. You will be working closely with a tight-knit team to identify and analyze potential investments, as well as support portfolio companies with research, introductions, and strategic input.

As a Venture Analyst, your day-to-day activities will include conducting due diligence on early-stage crypto projects, assessing businesses end-to-end, and building investment memos, market maps, and competitive analyses. You will also be responsible for generating deal flow through proactive outreach, community engagement, and ecosystem presence. Your ability to develop and refine views on emerging verticals and technologies will be crucial in this role.

As a member of the investment team, you will play a key role in identifying and supporting these founders, and contributing to the firm's evolving investment theses.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct due diligence on early-stage crypto projects across sectors and architectures
  • Assess businesses end-to-end, including team, market, product, business model, and tokenomics
  • Build investment memos, market maps, and competitive analyses
  • Develop and refine views on emerging verticals and technologies
  • Generate deal flow through proactive outreach, community engagement, and ecosystem presence
  • Build relationships with founders, builders, and other investors
  • Screen inbound opportunities and manage pipeline tracking
  • Represent the firm at events, hackathons, and conferences
  • Monitor portfolio company progress against milestones and market developments
  • Prepare portfolio updates and performance reports
  • Support portfolio companies with research, introductions, and strategic input

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, with a preference for technical backgrounds (CS, engineering, or equivalent)
  • Prior investment experience, at a crypto or traditional venture fund, or in an investing capacity at an operating company
  • Generalist orientation with the technical capability to read technical documentation and engage with founders on architecture and design choices
  • Curiosity across the crypto stack, with a point of view on where the interesting opportunities are forming
  • Excellent research and communication skills, with clear, structured writing
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to develop broad coverage across crypto verticals

Nice to Have

  • Experience with crypto infrastructure, applications, or middleware
  • Familiarity with the crypto ecosystem and its key players
  • Knowledge of tokenomics and blockchain architecture
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
