About the Role
The Vice President, Data and Insights at Gitlab will lead the strategic vision, architecture, and execution of the company's enterprise data platform and analytics capabilities. This role represents a transformational opportunity to move Gitlab beyond traditional dashboard development toward a truly AI-enabled, self-service data organization. As the leader of the data and insights team, you will oversee a distributed team spanning data platform and engineering, analytics engineering, data governance, and data analysts embedded across business functions. Your team will be responsible for driving business growth through strategic data platform development and AI-enabled analytics. The Vice President, Data and Insights will report to the CIO and serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, building the certified data foundations that power intelligent, consumption-aware decisions across the business.What You Will Do
- Define and execute a multi-year strategy for Gitlab's data platform, prioritizing certified datasets, clean schema architecture, and the infrastructure needed to support AI-native consumption and self-service access across the enterprise.
- Lead the transformation from analyst-dependent reporting toward AI-powered self-service models, enabling business stakeholders to perform analysis and access insights independently.
- Oversee the architecture and evolution of Gitlab's data engineering foundations, ensuring the team moves beyond reactive pipeline work toward scalable, AI-ready infrastructure.
- Drive analytics engineering practices that produce governed, well-documented, and reusable data models, championing the shift from ad hoc dashboard production to curated data products.
- Build deep expertise in Gitlab's consumption and usage-based business model, ensuring the data organization can surface the metrics, trends, and signals that matter most to Revenue, Finance, and Product stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain data governance and quality standards, ensuring the integrity and reliability of Gitlab's data assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes through data-driven insights and recommendations.
- Develop and manage the data and insights team's budget, ensuring alignment with company priorities and objectives.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in data and analytics leadership, with a proven track record of driving business growth through strategic data platform development and AI-enabled analytics.
- Strong technical skills, including expertise in data architecture, data engineering, and AI-powered analytics.
- Experience leading distributed teams, with a focus on talent development and management.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on innovation and employee growth.
- Strong business acumen, with a deep understanding of the technology industry and the role of data and analytics in driving business outcomes.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and AI-powered analytics tools.

- Knowledge of DevSecOps and the role of data and analytics in driving security and compliance.
