About the Role

Mercor's platform is designed to bridge the gap between talented individuals and the cutting-edge technology being developed in AI labs. As a participant, you will be engaged in a project that aims to enhance the capabilities of voice assistants, making them more adept at handling a wide range of questions and topics. Your input will be invaluable in this process, providing the AI system with the data it needs to learn and improve.

The work you will do involves making phone calls to a voice assistant, addressing real-life questions and scenarios, and then providing feedback through short surveys after each call. This feedback loop is crucial for refining the AI's understanding and response capabilities. Your participation will not only contribute to the evolution of voice assistant technology but also offer insights into how real users interact with these systems, helping to identify areas for improvement.

What You Will Do

• Make 5 phone calls to a voice assistant over approximately 1 week, each call lasting between 5-15 minutes.
• Address real questions from your life, covering areas such as health, work, learning, and practical inquiries.
• Complete a short survey after each call to provide feedback on the voice assistant's performance.
• Ensure that calls are natural and cover a variety of topics to help improve the AI's understanding and response abilities.
• Share your feedback to contribute to the improvement of the voice assistant's performance.
• Participate in the project for 2-3 hours per week, committed over a set period.
• Engage with the voice assistant in a way that mimics real-life interactions, providing valuable data for the AI's learning process.
• Comfortably speak English and be willing to consent to call recording for evaluation purposes.
• Utilize your feature phone or smartphone (with limited or no data plan) to make calls, reflecting the typical usage scenarios of the target audience.

What We Are Looking For

• Be at least 18 years old and located in Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, or Ghana.
• Be comfortable speaking English and have the ability to articulate your thoughts and questions clearly.
• Be willing to consent to call recording for evaluation purposes, understanding the importance of this for the research.
• Ideally, be a feature phone user or a smartphone user with limited or no data plan, reflecting common usage scenarios.
• Have limited or no prior experience with AI assistants, bringing a fresh perspective to the interaction.
• Represent a mix of genders and rural/urban locations, contributing to a diverse and comprehensive dataset.
• Be available to commit 2-3 hours per week to the project, ensuring consistent participation.
• Have a genuine interest in contributing to the development of voice assistant technology.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in research participation or similar roles, although not required.
• Familiarity with technology and AI concepts, which can enhance your understanding of the project's objectives.
• Strong communication skills, which are beneficial for providing clear and constructive feedback.
