About the Role

The Voice AI Research Participant role at mercor is a unique opportunity for individuals in Rwanda to contribute to the development of AI technology by participating in voice assistant interactions. This role is part of a larger effort to improve AI capabilities through real-life interactions, emphasizing the importance of diverse and natural language inputs. Participants will engage in a series of phone calls with a voice assistant, addressing real questions and concerns from their daily lives, including health, work, learning, and practical inquiries. This approach aims to simulate natural language interactions, providing valuable data for AI improvement. The role is designed to be flexible, requiring only 2-3 hours of commitment per week, making it an attractive option for those looking for part-time or flexible work arrangements.

What You Will Do

  • Make 5 phone calls to a voice assistant over approximately 1 week, Each call should address real questions or concerns from your life.
  • Complete a short survey after each call to provide feedback on your interaction with the voice assistant.
  • Ensure calls last between 5-15 minutes, allowing for natural conversation flow and ending when the inquiry is resolved.
  • Provide feedback to improve the voice assistant's performance, focusing on clarity, relevance, and overall user experience.
  • Be comfortable with your calls being recorded for evaluation purposes, contributing to the development of more effective AI models.
  • Engage in conversations that reflect real-life scenarios, including but not limited to health, education, employment, and everyday practical questions.
  • Be open to sharing your experience and suggestions for improving the voice assistant's capabilities.
  • Contribute to the diversity of interactions by bringing your unique perspective and language use to the role.

What We Are Looking For

  • Must be 18+ years old and located in Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, or Nigeria.
  • Comfortable speaking English and able to conduct conversations fluently.
  • Willing to consent to call recording for evaluation and improvement of AI models.
  • Feature phone user or a smartphone user with limited or no data plan, representing a common user scenario for AI assistants.
  • Limited or no prior experience with AI assistants, bringing a fresh and unbiased perspective to interactions.
  • A mix of genders and rural/urban locations to ensure a diverse participant pool.
  • Ability to commit 2-3 hours per week to the research project.
  • Basic understanding of how to use a phone and navigate through calls.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with other digital tools or platforms, showcasing adaptability and potential for understanding AI integrations.
  • Previous participation in research studies, demonstrating an understanding of the importance of feedback and data collection.
