Job Description

About the Role

The VP, Corporate Security at Gitlab is a critical leadership role that oversees the company's corporate security engineering, identity engineering, and end-user services. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of security controls, identity management, and workforce productivity. The successful candidate will lead a globally distributed team and be responsible for shaping the company's security posture, ensuring the security and compliance of internal systems, and enabling team members to work productively and securely.

The role entails developing and implementing a comprehensive security strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives. The VP, Corporate Security will work closely with the CISO, IT, engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure that security is integrated into every aspect of the business. This includes identity engineering, corporate security engineering, and end-user services, as well as compliance, risk management, and governance.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives
  • Lead a globally distributed team of security professionals, including identity engineers, security engineers, and end-user services specialists
  • Oversee the development and implementation of security controls, including identity and access management, endpoint security, and SaaS governance
  • Collaborate with the CISO, IT, engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure that security is integrated into every aspect of the business
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation plans for the corporate security team
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including team members, customers, and vendors
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging security threats and trends, and develop strategies to mitigate risks
  • Participate in incident response and crisis management activities
  • Develop and deliver reports and presentations to senior leadership and the board of directors

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate security, including 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong background in identity engineering, security controls, and end-user services
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience with security frameworks, compliance, and risk management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex security issues and develop effective solutions
  • Experience with cloud-based security solutions, including Okta and AWS
  • Strong understanding of security best practices, including zero trust, least privilege, and defense in depth

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI and machine learning-based security solutions
  • Certification in security, such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and DevSecOps
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and emerging security threats
  • Experience with security awareness training and education programs
