About the Role

The VP Data Engineering role at Consumer Edge is a strategic position that involves leading a team of skilled data engineers. The day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the development and maintenance of the company's data infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, scalability, and quality. This role matters because it directly impacts the company's ability to provide high-quality data insights to its clients, which in turn affects revenue.

As the leader of the data engineering team, the VP will be responsible for setting the technical direction across the company's GCP-based data platform. This includes designing and maintaining robust, scalable pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and serving diverse alternative datasets. The VP will work closely with data operations, product, and commercial teams to ensure that the company can continuously deliver high-quality data insights to its clients.

What You Will Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers, building a culture of ownership, craft, and continuous improvement
  • Own the architecture, reliability, and evolution of the company's GCP data platform, including BigQuery, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and GCS
  • Design and maintain robust, scalable pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and serving diverse alternative datasets
  • Drive infrastructure best practices and ensure the company's data infrastructure is secure and compliant with relevant regulations
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that data engineering priorities are aligned with business objectives
  • Develop and maintain technical roadmaps for the data engineering function
  • Manage ~15 engineers across 3 data engineering teams
  • Act as a technical role model, setting high standards while remaining approachable and supportive
  • Own hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the data engineering function

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Strong technical skills in data engineering, including experience with GCP, BigQuery, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and GCS
  • Experience in designing and maintaining large-scale data platforms
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in building and growing high-performing teams
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, including data operations, product, and commercial teams
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, including data quality, data governance, and data security
  • Experience in working with Agile development methodologies

Nice to Have

  • Experience in working with cloud-based data platforms, including AWS or Azure
  • Experience in working with containerization technologies, such as Docker
  • Experience in working with orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes
  • Certification in data engineering or a related field
