About the Role

As the VP of Data, you will be part of the executive team and will play a key role in shaping the company's overall strategy and direction. You will be responsible for developing and managing the data function's budget, as well as identifying and prioritizing key initiatives and projects. What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives
  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers, analysts, and scientists, providing guidance and support to help them grow and develop in their careers
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and executive leadership, to identify key areas of opportunity and drive data-driven decision making
  • Develop and manage the data function's budget, identifying and prioritizing key initiatives and projects
  • Collaborate with the executive team to shape the company's overall strategy and direction
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in data engineering, analytics, and machine learning, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and vendors
  • Communicate complex data insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with data management and analytics, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure data quality, security, and integrity

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in data leadership roles, preferably in healthcare or regulated industries
  • Proven track record of owning a full data function end-to-end at scale
  • Strong product and business instincts, in addition to technical depth
  • Experience with experimentation, causal inference, and A/B testing in healthcare contexts
  • Familiarity with PHI/HIPAA and compliance, privacy, and security implications of data work in healthcare
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate distributed teams
  • Ability to make decisions with imperfect data and prioritize tradeoffs between platform investment, analytics throughput, and machine learning bets
  • Experience with data engineering, analytics, and machine learning technologies, including cloud-based platforms and tools
  • Strong understanding of data governance, quality, and security principles and practices

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a startup or early-stage company environment
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and lean principles
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques, including Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js
  • Knowledge of programming languages, including Python, R, or SQL
  • Certification in data science, machine learning, or a related field
