Associate Editor, Connect Editorial
WFA Digital Insight
Stacker’s Connect Editorial team sits at the intersection of brand content and nonprofit journalism, feeding a newswire that reaches thousands of local outlets. The Associate Editor role isn’t a generic copy‑editing gig; it demands fluency in both newsroom standards and the commercial goals of brand clients. You’ll be responsible for shaping stories so they meet strict editorial guidelines while still delivering the client’s message—a balancing act that tests both journalistic instincts and diplomatic communication. The position reports to the Deputy Editor, offering direct exposure to senior editorial strategy and the chance to influence process improvements across a fast‑moving publishing pipeline. Candidates who thrive on deadline pressure, enjoy data‑driven story review, and can articulate edits clearly to non‑journalist stakeholders will find this role uniquely rewarding.
Job Description
About the Role As an Associate Editor for Stacker Connect, you will edit submitted brand and nonprofit newsroom stories to meet Stacker editorial guidelines and prepare them for syndication on our newswire. Reporting to the Deputy Editor of Connect Editorial, you will edit coverage from a mix of for-profit brands and nonprofit newsrooms, helping produce an invaluable third-party newswire distributed to thousands of partner news outlets. Our mission is to empower the world's publishers. Stacker's Connect newswire serves over 3,000 local news partners, ranging from major networks to independent outlets. The newswire helps complement the coverage of our publishing partners and engage their readers in new ways. We're looking for an experienced editor who is excited to edit news articles and features in a deadline-oriented newswire environment while also understanding how to work effectively with brand clients. About Stacker Stacker is revolutionizing the traditional newswire business model and the ways in which brand newsrooms and publishers connect. Our platform helps over 100 content contributors - brands, nonprofit newsrooms, and others - extend the reach of their content by seamlessly integrating with a network of thousands of trusted news publishers. Stacker helps brands get their stories in front of more readers by syndicating content across a large-scale publisher network, enabling organizations to expand the reach and impact of their earned and owned media. As a bootstrapped, fast-growing company, we're resourceful, innovative, and committed to building an inclusive, equitable culture. We are a remote-first team that values ownership, integrity, and collaboration—offering flexible schedules, unlimited vacation, an employee equity program, and full health & dental coverage. We champion long-term impact over short-term gains and believe in empowering our team with autonomy and opportunities for career growth. What You'll Do - Review and edit stories from brand and nonprofit newsroom clients for accuracy, style, and fit with Stacker's publisher network.
- Work with clients on light revisions, clarifications, and factual questions to get stories syndication-ready.
- Identify minor process inefficiencies in the editing pipeline and suggest improvements.
- Prioritize and edit multiple stories at once to keep pace with a fast-moving, newswire publishing schedule.
- Ability to clearly and professionally communicate editorial standards to clients in a way that addresses client needs and optimizes their stories for earned media pickup by newswire publishing partners.
- Ability to assess and address issues with the data methodologies in stories submitted by clients for Connect syndication.
- Ability to prioritize editing of multiple stories and maintain consistent throughput.
- Understanding of the coverage strengths, aspirations, and gaps of the local journalism landscape, with an eagerness to help support newsrooms.
- Experience in personal finance/health/real estate coverage and reviewing/editing data journalism.
How to Stand Out
- Highlight any experience you have editing brand‑generated or nonprofit content, not just traditional newsroom pieces.
- Prepare a short sample edit of a brand story to showcase your ability to balance client voice with editorial standards.
- Demonstrate familiarity with data verification by mentioning specific tools or methods you use to fact‑check statistics.
- Emphasize your remote‑work discipline: describe your setup, communication habits, and how you meet deadlines independently.
- During the interview, ask about the typical turnaround time for stories to show you understand the fast‑paced newswire environment.
